Our Model: Building Agency Through the Village Approach

At SwaTaleem, we believe education is the great equalizer—a promise of opportunity regardless of where a Girl is born. Yet realizing that promise requires more than access to school. A Girl’s future is shaped not only by her own aspirations and capabilities, but also by the people and systems around her.

Through our Village Approach, we work with marginalized adolescent Girls in government Girls’ schools and KGBVs (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalyas), combining in-person engagement with cost-effective technology to strengthen both Girls’ agency and the agency of the ecosystem that supports them.

We engage Girls, teachers, wardens, parents, local women leaders, and government officials—the key actors who influence a Girl's life trajectory. By making them more informed, invested, and accountable, we help create environments where Girls can thrive.

At the same time, Girls build confidence, voice, and agency through foundational English and critical skills, including socio-emotional learning, reproductive and menstrual health, gender, and safety.

We believe Girls’ agency and ecosystem agency are mutually reinforcing. When both grow together, possibilities become futures.

Why It Matters

At SwaTaleem, we believe every Girl should have agency to make an informed choice about her life decisions. We build this agency by combining critical skills with community support, facilitating future readiness and transforming systems. We ensure that girls go beyond learning to build confidence, practical skills, and a sense of agency.
