This is the pain point that, if solved, can bring a big change in the ecosystem \u2014 the beer itself can serve as a distribution channel.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"005c\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The second man thought about it, agreed with the first man\u2019s idea, raised his hand for a refill of beer and said, \u201c<em class=\"ip\">Well, we need to enable breweries to transform their thought process about growth. How about a way to enter a small settlement via an individual customer where the beer does a great job of impressing the individual but it doesn\u2019t stop there. It enables that person to get more friends from the town to adopt the beer. If this type of beer sales thinking is made possible by breweries, we have a win.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"cea9\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">After a moment\u2019s silence, the third man spoke, \u201c<em class=\"ip\">I agree with both these fellas. So let me build on top of what\u2019s already said. I think we need to help breweries and their owners make beer that sells itself. Beer experiences that speak for itself.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"1ce3\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">They said in unison, \u201c<em class=\"ip\">Beer-Led Growth.<\/em>\u201d And the legend has it that the barman had to agree to provide all three of them free beer forever.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bf42\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">This story is based on real events, just that we need to correct certain nuances. The first, second and third men were\u00a0<a class=\"fk iq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kirani\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shekhar Kirani<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"fk iq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/girish1\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Girish Mathrubootham<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"fk iq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/manav-garg-227254\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manav Garg<\/a>\u00a0respectively and the barman was\u00a0<a class=\"fk iq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/avinashraghava\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avinash Raghava<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 all of them core members of <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SaaSBOOMi<\/a>. The conversation was not about breweries and beer, but about SaaS startups and <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/product\/building-products-that-sell-themselves-story-of-appointy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how to build products that sell themselves<\/a>. And of course, they didn\u2019t meet in a bar. Very predictably, they were on a Zoom call and Avinash says that there\u2019s no evidence stating that he offered free beer forever to his colleagues for their advice \u2014 this is still in contention.<\/p>\n<p id=\"af71\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">But what matters is that this is how SaaSBOOMi Product was born as an idea and why we\u2019ve decided to focus on enabling Indian startups and entrepreneurs to adopt <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/product\/understanding-product-led-growth-by-girish-mathrubootham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Product-Led Growth<\/a> as a philosophy.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"404d\" class=\"ir is da dz it iu iv gz iw ix iy hc iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj jk jl jm dx\"><strong class=\"bf\">Introducing SaaSBOOMi Product<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"7e59\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea jn gz ha ed jo hc hd he jp hg hh hi jq hk hl hm jr ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">SaaSBOOMi Product is an initiative to help SaaS startups from India <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/product\/making-your-product-work-the-plg-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">develop product-first thinking<\/a>, to help them build good quality software products that solve problems for their customers from around the world. As Shekhar put it well, we have seen very successful products come out of the Indian SaaS stable, but it\u2019s important to acknowledge that they still remain the exception and not the norm. The key to the problem, we speculate, could be the dependence Indian entrepreneurs have on <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/marketing\/all-about-marketing-and-sales-alignment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sales and customer acquisition processes with many human touch-points<\/a>. This incentivises the startup to move away from a product-centric way of building a business, towards a philosophy of throwing human resources at most problems. While it worked well for the IT and BPO sectors that have contributed immensely to the country\u2019s GDP in the past three decades, we feel the SaaS businesses today need an orientation that helps them put the product (or software) at the centre.<\/p>\n<p id=\"173a\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">This would require the entire journey, <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/marketing\/why-market-discovery-matters-in-saas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">market research<\/a> -&gt; building the minimum viable (or loveable) product -&gt; acquiring your 10 early adopters -&gt; getting your 1000 true fans, to be re-designed. It calls for the ability <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/product\/how-to-structure-engineering-product-org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to identify customer pain points<\/a> from the early days in the journey, iteratively build well-thought-out self-serving product experiences and consistently learn how your customers are adopting them. This would be philosophically opposite to the cognitively easier (but not scalable) means of building bespoke and tailor-made solutions for customers who want them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-859\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/saasboomi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/0_TCZ1sw3yMLNF2543-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"414\" height=\"250\" \/ loading=\"lazy\" ><\/p>\n<div class=\"n p\">\n<div class=\"ab ac ae af ag cx ai aj\">\n<p class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\">As part of SaaSBOOMi Product, we will be launching numerous initiatives to inculcate and encourage product-centric thinking among <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/product\/india-saas-story-book-by-the-founders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SaaS startups in India<\/a>. We understand and acknowledge that this is going to be hard and will take years of effort. But we believe this is the way to the future and we are motivated to commit our time to this powerful cause. Now let\u2019s discuss the first initiative coming out of the Product track.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"404d\" class=\"ir is da dz it iu iv gz iw ix iy hc iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj jk jl jm dx\"><strong class=\"bf\">Product-Led Growth Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"7c03\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea jn gz ha ed jo hc hd he jp hg hh hi jq hk hl hm jr ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Product-Led Growth (PLG), in a line, can be termed as the philosophy of building a product that sells itself. PLG is being widely adopted by SaaS companies around the world to build and sell products in a manner that the product itself enables the customer to make substantial progress in the user journey and helps the customer make a buying decision without too many human touch-points.<\/p>\n<p id=\"9dde\" class=\"gv gw da gx b ea gy gz ha ed hb hc hd he hf hg hh hi hj hk hl hm hn ho hp hq cs dx\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Our objective with the SaaSBOOMi PLG Series is to introduce PLG to the <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/growth\/shaping-indias-saas-landscape-startups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indian SaaS ecosystem<\/a>, provide a platform for founders, product and growth practitioners from Indian SaaS startups to understand how PLG can be transformational for growth, and learn how to adopt and implement PLG by listening to the experts in the Industry.<\/p>\n<p>We believe Indian SaaS startups can benefit tremendously from implementing <a href=\"https:\/\/saasboomi.org\/saas\/growth\/why-what-and-how-of-product-led-growth-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PLG as a core product-growth strategy<\/a>. It can lead to reduced cost in functions like support and sales (reduced human touch-points) while providing a superior experience for the users around the world. However, as of today, we have very few PLG practitioners in India. While sales and support pipeline frameworks have got massive adoption among startups here, there are very few companies that are implementing PLG in India. SaaSBOOMi wants to address this gap in the industry by building awareness and helping startups learn how to implement PLG.
