We are pleased to announce the reopening of applications for our Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) Fellowship in Nepal. The fellowship brings together early and mid-career lawyers to conduct strategic litigation, advocacy and research on crucial ESCR issues. This is a full-time, remunerated fellowship that runs for 18 months. You can apply through the link here.
The last date for applications is Sunday, 11 August 2024.
The ESCR Fellowship was conceptualised in 2018 in response to the need to offer legal support towards the realisation of fundamental rights of Nepali citizens. A collaboration with our partner, the Law and Policy Forum for Social Justice (LAPSOJ), the program works to ensure that ESCR cases are litigated in the courts with consistency. This includes litigation on issues like access to affordable, quality health services, food insecurity, and lack of work opportunities.
Since our first cycle in 2018, our fellows have filed important Public Interest Litigations (PIL) on the right to education, abortion healthcare, and rights of persons with disabilities before the Supreme Court of Nepal. You can read more about the Fellowship here and listen to the experiences of our fellows and their mentors in this short film.
To apply for the fellowship:
- Fill out the application form with a CV and a cover letter (this can be written or a video) expressing your interest in the program.
- Attend virtual interviews with our Fellowship Selection Committee.
- Present on an ESCR issue of your choice during the final round of interviews.
We look forward to your application!
