{"id":6403,"date":"2021-09-30T16:05:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T10:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/?post_type=ipb_casestudy&#038;p=6403"},"modified":"2023-05-05T12:01:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T06:31:38","slug":"hundreds-saved-from-homelessness-a-photostory","status":"publish","type":"ipb_casestudy","link":"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/ipb_casestudy\/hundreds-saved-from-homelessness-a-photostory\/","title":{"rendered":"A Photostory \u2013 Revealing the Reality of Life in a Basti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iProbono\u2019s intervention recently prevented approximately 600 residents of the Kashmere Gate Metro Station Parking basti from becoming homeless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6404 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"976\" height=\"661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.png 976w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1-768x520.png 768w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1-200x135.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily wage workers, street vendors, vegetable sellers, domestic workers, and other city service personnel make up the majority of the residents of this basti, who are mostly migrants from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6405 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/q.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"978\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/q.png 978w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/q-300x97.png 300w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/q-768x249.png 768w, https:\/\/dev.matsio.com\/matsio\/i-probono.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/q-200x65.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 978px) 100vw, 978px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 12 July 2021, our grassroots partner Basti Suraksha Manch (BSM) brought a case to iProbono where an eviction notice was issued in the Kashmere Gate Metro Parking basti by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), giving residents 15 days to vacate their jhuggis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iProbono met with Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) officials to gather information about the land in question, including title details, and whether a survey for rehabilitation had been conducted.&nbsp; It came to light that the land did not belong to DMRC, but to another government authority. Our panel lawyer Advocate Nitin Saluja and his colleague Priyanka Prasanth drafted and filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court seeking to set aside the notice of eviction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 27 July, the day the eviction was meant to take place, the lawyer for DMRC submitted before the Court that they would like to withdraw the notice of eviction.
